Athens woman accused of scratching racial slur on a car

On Thursday June 15, 2017, The New York State Police at Catskill report the arrest of Desirae N. Bernard, age 21, of Athens, NY, for the charge of Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree, classified as a hate crime, a class D Felony.

Bernard was arrested after an investigation into an altercation that occurred on Saturday June 10th at the New Baltimore Rest Area located on the New York State Thruway. The suspect allegedly confronted a former co-worker inside the rest area and then proceeded to the employee parking lot where she scratched a racial slur onto the victim’s vehicle.

Bernard was arraigned in the Town of Coxsackie Court before Justice Wanda Dorpfeld and was remanded to the Greene County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.
